Greetings:

There was a thread about Factions ideas and what was expected on the game some time ago and there i remember posting about the faction war system being somewhat similar to Lineage's 2 C3 Orc-vs-Silenos faction system, where u get special items and discounts if donating points to one faction or another by doing quests.

Then, looking at new GW title "NightFall" i inmediately thought on L2's Dawn-vs-Dusk system. On L2, chars decide to support 2 Factions (Dawn or Dusk) and this support (Plus special PvP events) determine if sky is tinted blood dark red (Dusk wins) or stays clear (Dawn wins).

It was stated also in other forum that NightFall storyline involved a curse on the new world being on darkness...

If so, Should we expecting a new PvP instance as important as HA? New PvP system? Day/night change if faction "of the light" or faction "of the dark" win? Maybe near-impossible PvE quests...

I dunno, but somehow im getting the feeling they will drop the factions from now on other than balthazar and god aligned faction. A lot of complaints about Kurzick/Luxon faction.

I think they said the faction system is a one time thing, and this would have a new mechanic.

I don't think you will be able to choose to be dark or light, both characters are light characters (that is going to be hard to choose, light characters suck

). The main quest will probably be fighting the new darkness. Like smaifly said, the faction system is probably a one time thing.

We have some part of the Dusk-Dawn system in Factions. A very quick look at it:

- All chars can participate.
- You have NPCs of Dawn and Dusk and you choose which one to support, you play special PvE events to support (Like Factions).
- You can change items given on these events for special items. You get special merchant discounts (Very much like Factions, but in GWF is factions points and not faction items... u can get factions items later).
- You get access to special PvE missions (Like Factions).
- You get little buffs from your faction's NPCs (Like Factions).
- You can see the evolution of the Faction war (On L2 is thru NPCs, in GWF is the faction line).
- You have events where you have to resist waves of monsters time after time (I think this is in Factions).

Mmm wait... this is almost the entire Dawn Dusk system of L2 on GWF. The only thing missing is the sky change based on competition results

My guess is NightFall will be more about content: more map than Factions and an educated guess would be a new GvG event and a new HA-like event

I'm putting it in a more direct way: i believe there will be some sort of event (PvE or PvP) that will trigger changes on the map, whether geographic or climatic.

The parallelism is not pointing at WoW, but L2 (A NcSoft game). The faction system used in GWF is very similar to the one used on L2, the only thing left out was the sky (Maybe terrain?) change, so if they bring that to GW Nightfall i believe we will see places with changing sky/weather/terrain based on some PvE-PvP event.

I realise that your particular parallel comes from L2, however the title is very suggestive of a number of ideas that have been running riot through suggestion forums ever since GW was released.

GW is not L2, it isn't WoW, FF, DAoC, or any other MMORPG that I could mention. We don't need a Dawn vs Dusk, Horde vs Alliance, Light vs Darkness, or any other gimmick that has already been dreamed up in other games.

My immediate thoughts about the title of the game, had more to do with the storyline than a pvp gimmick. And should Anet feel the need to create one, well I hope they come up with something that is just a little more original (not that that will be all that easy) and that isn't going to immediately have people thinking "good", "evil".

I think it'll end up being more of the storyline this time. Prophecies had more to do with the storyline than Factions name, at least.

Maybe Nightfall refers to the coming of darkness to the world, and Chapter 3 will will end with a cliff hanger that leads onto Chapter 4. And later Chapters will deal with the war against the darkness.

Though on second thoughts, considering the storylines so far maybe it just refers to a villain called NightFall ><.
